At Empire Teknology, we believe that robust infrastructure is the foundation of industrial success. We are proud to share the successful execution and commissioning of our recent high-tension (HT) electrical project for M/S. Babu Chemicals, located in the thriving industrial hub of Bhasariya, Mahesana, Gujarat.
This turnkey project involved the end-to-end installation of an 11 kV High Tension Underground Cable network paired with a 250 kVA power setup, designed to deliver uninterrupted, safe, and highly efficient power to their chemical manufacturing facility.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how our engineering team brought this project from "Ideas to Execution."
The Project Objective: Powering Uninterrupted Manufacturing
Chemical manufacturing facilities operate under strict parameters. Equipment requires a stable, high-capacity power supply, and any voltage fluctuation or unexpected downtime can result in massive production losses or safety hazards.
Babu Chemicals needed a reliable 11 kV grid connection capable of handling a 250 kVA load to support their continuous operational needs. Furthermore, to maximize site safety and protect the infrastructure from environmental wear and tear, an underground cable routing was chosen over traditional overhead lines.
Engineering & Execution: How We Did It
Laying high-voltage underground cables requires precise engineering, strict adherence to safety codes, and meticulous site management. Our execution process included:
Precision Trenching & Route Planning: Before a single wire was laid, our engineers mapped the most efficient and safe route for the HT cable, avoiding existing underground utilities. We excavated trenches to the statutory depth required for 11kV lines, ensuring the cable would be secure from heavy surface loads and vibrations.
Safe Cable Laying Practices: We utilized high-grade 11 kV XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) insulated cables. To protect the cables from mechanical damage and moisture, we employed standard HT bedding techniques—laying a cushion of river sand, placing the cables, and covering them with warning bricks before backfilling.
Termination and Jointing: HT cable jointing is highly specialized work. Our certified technicians executed precise end-terminations and straight-through joints, ensuring zero leakage and maintaining the integrity of the insulation.
Integration with the 250 kVA Setup: The underground lines were seamlessly integrated into the facility's 250 kVA transformer and distribution panel, establishing a highly reliable step-down node to feed the plant's heavy machinery.
The Underground Advantage
Why go underground for industrial HT power? For a facility like Babu Chemicals, the benefits are clear:
Maximum Safety: Eliminates the risk of accidental contact with heavy machinery (like cranes or trucks) operating on-site.
Weather Resilience: Cables are fully protected from high winds, heavy monsoon rains, and extreme Gujarat summer heat, drastically reducing maintenance needs.
Space Optimization: Frees up valuable overhead space and improves the overall aesthetics and maneuverability within the industrial compound.
Testing, Commissioning, and Handover
In line with Empire Teknology’s strict QA/QC standards, the installation underwent rigorous testing before it was energized. Our team conducted thorough Megger (Insulation Resistance) testing and Hi-Pot (High Potential) tests to guarantee that the cables and joints could easily withstand the 11,000-volt stress.
Following successful Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT), the statutory clearances were finalized, and the system was smoothly commissioned and handed over to the Babu Chemicals operational team.
